SPT2024

In 2024 there will be TWO SPT conferences:

SPQT2024 (Symmetry and Perturbation in Quantum Theory) 2-8 June 2024
SPTCRN2024 (SPT Chemical Reaction Networks) 9-15 June 2024

 Both conferences will take place in Pula near Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy
in the premises of Hotel Flamingo

Some practical information:

Pula, and more specifically Santa Margherita di Pula - the exact location of our meetings - is located on the south-west coast of Sardinia, about 30 km from Cagliari and a bit more than 35 km from Cagliari Elmas airport.

Participants are of course free to lodge anywhere, but we have agreed on some discounted rates for those lodging in the Flamingo resort, where the meeting will take place. This includes two hotels:
 The conference room is in Hotel Flamingo; Hotel Mare Pineta is five minutes' walk away from Flamingo (via a foothpath). Main meals will be served in Flamingo also for conferences participants lodging in Mare Pineta, so that all those lodging in the resort will be able to have meals together, while breakfast will be served at the hotel you are lodging in.

The rates for conference participants are slightly different for the two weeks; see detail in each conference page. The rates are meant for those staying for the whole duration of the conference; on the other hand, these will be applied also in case you wish to extend your stay for some days before or after the conference.

Full details about reservation are given in the reservation forms (accessed through the individual conferences web pages); however you may note that the cancelation policy is as follows:

- cancellation up to 30 days before the arrival date – no individual fee will be charged
- cancellation between 30 and 15 days before the arrival date – the participant will be charged for 1 night
- cancellation between 14 and 5 days before the arrival date – the participant will be charged for 2 nights
- cancellation less than 5 days before the arrival date - the participant will be charged for the entire stay
 
The Hotel will also be able to provide transfer services from Cagliari port or airport upon request.


Travel

Pula is better accessed through Cagliari.

If you travel by car, you will probably arrive by ferry in either Cagliari itself, or Olbia (NE) or Porto Torres (NW); please note that road travel through Sardinia is in general scenic but slow. From Cagliari, take road SS 195 in direction South West, with indications for Pula and Teulada. You should not go to Pula itself, but continue along the coast; a couple of KM after Nora, you will find Santa Margherita di Pula and indications for Hotel Flamingo. 

If you arrive in Cagliari by boat but without a car, the bus station in Cagliari is just next to the port. There is public service by ARST towards Pula; the bus will leave you on SS195 and you will have to walk a few hundred meters to Flamingo; or you can get off at Nora and get a local bus (or a taxi) to Santa Margherita and Flamingo. Precise indications and schedule will be posted in due time.

If you arrive by air, it is very strongly suggested that you get a plane to Cagliari Elmas airport. From there you can either reach Cagliari train station (frequent train shuttle service), where you are in fron of the bus station and can use local transport (see above); or have a transfer arranged to get directly to Santa Margherita and Flamingo.

You may also rent a car; in this case we recommend you book this well in advance: albeit early June is not yet a full tourist season, price may get higher as you get nearer to June. Note that if you, or accompanying persons,  plan to have trips in the south-west Sardinia area, having a car will make things much easier, and will allow you to reach more interesting places.

Climate

As you will see, it is expected that we find a pleasantly warm (that is, warm but not exceedingly warm) climate in that period. With some luck, of course.

Conference fee

A moderate conference fee will be levied; we expect this to be in the 50E range, with a reduced fee for students, unemployed, and retired people. Those registering for one of the two conferences will not be charged a fee for attending (in full or in part) the other one.
Details will be announced at a later time, and may differ for the two conferences.

Conference format

In line with SPT traditions, the conference format will leave ample time for informal discussion and collaboration; thus the time devoted to formal talks will be limited.
